Indiana University Bloomington held its second annual Geoengineering Summit in May 2026, with roughly 200 middle and high school students from six Indiana schools presenting climate solutions to IU faculty and graduate students.
Following a five-lesson unit on geoengineering and its ethics, student teams pitched engineering-based ideas for addressing climate change - from brighter urban surfaces to a Danville team's proposal for bioluminescent trees to replace streetlights. The summit is led by Adam Scribner, Ben Kravitz, and Paul Goddard, in partnership with IU's Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, School of Education, and Environmental Resilience Institute, and is supported by 2892 Miles to Go.
